Our take

Stitches and screen

Juki lists 255 built-in stitches including basic, stretch, decorative, letter and buttonhole stitches. Stitches are chosen with a selector switch and push buttons and shown on an LCD screen, so you can see what you have selected before sewing.

The number of buttonhole styles is not given separately.

Threading and reliability

An automatic needle threader is listed to reduce eye strain, and the listing calls the machine jam resistant. Accessories are stored in the accessory tray, and a soft-sided dust cover is included.

A jam resistant design matters more than it sounds. Thread nests under the fabric are among the most common reasons new sewists give up on a project, so a machine designed to resist them is a sensible choice for anyone still building confidence, and it saves time for experienced users too.

Size and practical points

The spec table gives 13.6 kg and a metal and plastic construction. The listed dimensions, a few millimetres in each direction, are clearly a data error. At this weight, the F600 is a machine to keep set up on a table.

Throat space, feed system and thread cutter are not described, though these matter for quilting. Check them before buying if large quilts are your main project.

Against the Skyline S3 AE and MC6700P

The Janome Skyline S3 AE has fewer stitches (120) but publishes an 8.25 by 4.7 inch workspace, a 7-piece feed, start/stop and a speed slider at 8.39 kg. The Janome MC6700P lists a 255 mm harp and AcuFeed Flex for serious quilting. The F600's strength is its stitch count.

Within Juki's range, the HZL-G220 adds box feed and a thread cutter, and the TL-2010Q is the semi-industrial straight stitcher.

Who should look elsewhere

Quilters who want a stated wide harp or dual feed should look at the Skyline or Memory Craft machines. Anyone who needs to carry a machine to classes will find 13.6 kg heavy.

Verdict

Buy the Juki HZL-F600 if you want a large stitch library with an automatic needle threader for mixed sewing and quilting at home. If a stated wide workspace matters, the Janome Skyline S3 AE is better documented, and for dedicated quilting features, the Janome MC6700P.
