Our take

Stitches and buttonholes

Janome lists 450 built-in stitches including 5 alphabets, stitch tapering and the exclusive Miracle Stitch, along with 13 automatic one-step buttonhole styles. Stitch tapering narrows a decorative stitch to a point at the start and end, which looks neat on appliqué and corners.

A.S.R. and ruler work

The Accurate Stitch Regulator keeps stitch length even during free motion quilting regardless of how fast you move the fabric. A ruler work foot is supplied, so you can trace acrylic templates for straight lines, arcs and feathers. For quilters moving from straight-line to free motion work, these two features remove much of the trial and error.

AcuFeed Flex and needle plates

The detachable AcuFeed Flex system feeds fabric from top and bottom, preventing layers from shifting on long or bulky seams. A one-touch needle plate system lets you switch between zigzag, straight stitch and professional-grade HP plates without tools, so piecing accuracy is easy to improve on the same machine you use for decorative work.

Practical details

The spec table gives 12 kg, Japan as country of origin, a white finish and 2 years of EU spare part availability. The brand field shows Quiltlines, which looks like the seller. The listed dimensions are large and may include packaging. Harp space is not stated in the listing.

Against the MC9480QC and MC6700P

The Janome MC9480QC shares A.S.R., the ruler foot and AcuFeed Flex, with 400 stitches and 3 needle plates at 13.7 kg. The MC6700P has a stated 255 mm harp and 200 stitches but no stitch regulator. The Continental M8 offers the most stitches and buttonholes of the three.

Who should skip it? Anyone who sews occasionally, or mainly makes simple garments, will not use most of what the M8 offers. A mid-range machine such as the Janome Skyline S3 AE gives a wide workspace and the essentials with far fewer features to learn.

Verdict

Choose the Janome Continental M8 Professional if you want the biggest stitch library, 13 buttonhole styles, stitch regulation and dual feed in one top-tier machine. If you can live with slightly fewer stitches, the Janome MC9480QC offers the same quilting tools, and for a stated wide harp without regulation, the MC6700P.
